I have been experimenting a lot with Maya and Unity 3d. The level that we are constructing for our game (C.H.I.M.P 3000) is going to consist of 4 areas in one main level. The goal of the level is to slowly deactivate an engine in a space ship. You must find buttons and switches in each of the area to progress to the next. One of the Areas is a mechanical gear system that seems to create power for the space ship. This area will present many obstacle and mini puzzles. The cogs will form platforms and the user must avoid the gaps and avoid falling off.

areas(in order of play) will consist of:

Power Storage Area – Batteries and elctonic components that will seem to extract power from cables to a power storage area. Goal is to stop the storage facility storing energy from the cables.

Cable/wire area – After disconnecting the cables from the power storage unit. You must find a way to slow down the gears within the Power Source, that feeds power to cables/storage unit.

Hydraulic area – This area is connected to cog area and is visibly reacting to the movements of the gear system. Hydraulic walls will be rising up and down very quickly until the user has done the other three areas and lowly slowed down its motion.

This Project is in development at the moment. But is close to an end and we will actually be starting to create very very soon. The main character and enemies have been designed and are ready to be modeled in 3d. We are currently finalising the level and this will also be created in 3d in the next coming couple of weeks.

I have uploaded a short play blast of an experimentation with gear systems I created in Maya.
